Overview
Every fortnight, we’ll meet up to talk about what’s been happening in our lives, from general life stuff to uni-related things.
Session information
What is it?
This space exists in the middle ground. It isn’t therapy, and we’re not licensed therapists. But it’s also not just a casual hang-out. When we’re just socialising, the important stuff often gets skipped or brushed aside. This group is designed to bridge that gap. It gives us a structured but relaxed space to talk about mutual things we’re dealing with, what’s been on our minds, or simply to vent. For example, you might be: • looking to meet people • figuring out relationships • settling into a new city • navigating social anxiety • managing uni life • managing academic pressure • unpacking life stuff • navigating neurodivergence Sometimes it’s hard to bring these things up in normal friendship settings. Our members often say they value having a space where they can say what’s actually going on, get it out of their head, and leave feeling a little lighter or more reset.
What’s the format?
Before the session kicks off, as everyone arrives, we’ll make tea or coffee, grab some biscuits, and chat informally. Everyone is friendly and there’s no pressure. Once we’re settled, our facilitator Gareth will walk us through the format and introduce the questions. It’s informal and straightforward. We move through a series of 5 or 6 questions, passing a ball around the circle. Only the person holding the ball speaks, and you can always choose to pass. When we’ve finished answering the questions, we go back to relaxed conversation before heading off.
What if I’m unsure about coming?
It’s completely normal to feel unsure before coming along. In fact, most people feel at least a little nervous before their first session. It’s common to overthink what the session will be like or worry about being judged, put on the spot, or expected to share more than you’re comfortable with. That’s exactly why we follow a few simple principles to help everyone feel at ease: 1 - There’s no pressure to speak. 2 - You can always pass on a question, especially in your first few sessions. Many people choose to listen at the start while they get a feel for the group. 3 - You’re welcome to take part at your own pace. 4 - Anything shared within a session is confidential. Because of this, most people tell us it feels more relaxed than they expected.
